Hey, guys! Just a short blog post on some holiday essentials I think you need if you are going away this summer. I am going to keep this blog post short and simple as I am actually on holidays right now! These are just 10 simple things I make sure to have before setting off on my holidays (leaving out the obvious, passport, boarding pass etc). I hope you enjoy reading!
Portable charger – These are very easy to come by these days, as phones get smarter, battery power seems to slack! You can pick up a portable charger pretty much anywhere these days for pretty cheap. Most portable chargers can power your phone up twice as long as make sure the portable charger is fully charged. This can be very useful for holidays as there is obviously nowhere to charge your phone by the pool! It is also very useful if you are doing long activities such as hiking, mountain walking etc. I made sure to pack one of these in case my phone runs out of battery!
Travel adapter – This may not apply to everyone it all depends on where you are traveling to. In Ireland, we have different sockets to a lot of places and often need to bring one of these while traveling. This is a very basic thing and there isn’t much to be said about it except for the fact that it is important if you want to charge your phone, straighten your hair etc!
Light Makeup – This also doesn’t apply to everyone and you’re more than likely not going to wear makeup during the day or it would melt off! But if you’re like me and just want to bring some life back into your skin for dinner and some drinks then you definitely need some light makeup. Overloading a lot of products onto your face while on holidays is usually not a good idea so it’s better to opt for some light coverage foundation, concealer, setting powder and maybe just a bit of bronzer which is exactly what I packed!
A hat – This is so important to ensure that you do not get a burnt scalp, this is one of the most painful places to burn. I know this from experience. I didn’t bring a hat with me on holidays last year and burned my head, it was not fun. There are so many places where you can pick up a hat and there are definitely a lot of different options too! The hat pictured is the one I have decided to bring this year, it offers a lot of protection while also being very in fashion!
Good quality sunglasses – I know how easy it may seem to quickly run into Primark and pick up a pair of sunglasses at such an inexpensive price but if you are someone who travels a lot a good quality pair of sunglasses is definitely an essential. I got my first pair of Ray Bans last summer (the ones pictured to the right) and I have never looked back. Considering I am from Ireland, a place where we don’t see much sun, I did have to think about it for a little while before buying but I did in the end! Protecting your eyes is so important and sun damage is such a dangerous thing but you can definitely see a major difference in the quality between Ray Bans and sunglasses you would pick up for €10!
Suncream – This is the most obvious holiday essential. Suncream is the most important thing to protect your skin, especially if you live somewhere where it rains 90% of the time! Look after your skin! Ant type of sun cream would do but the higher the factor, the more protected your skin is. It is important to start off using a high factor and once your skin gets used to the sun you can drop to a lower factor if you wish.
Comfy shoes – If you plan on doing some sight-seeing or even just some light walking in the evening, comfy shoes are a definite must! There is nothing worse than having sore feet and especially while on holidays! It is also important to dress as comfortable as possible while traveling, especially if you will be traveling for long periods of time. Remember, comfort is key!
A small, easy to carry bag – This is definitely a must for everyone who is traveling this summer! We all hate carrying around massive bags that weigh us down, especially in the heat. Small bags or backpacks are easy to get and are quite cheap, I picked one up for my holidays the other day in Primark for just €12, this is perfect for my holidays! A lot of the time you won’t need to carry much around so these bags are just perfect for your summer holidays!!
A pamper day – I feel that everybody needs one of these before they go on holidays. It is stressful to organize a holiday, make sure everything is packed and make sure everything is paid for and that is why I believe everyone needs one pamper day before they jet off. Whether it be getting your nails done, getting your eyebrows done, taking a spa day or even just buying yourself some new makeup, it is something we all need before going on our holidays, to do even more relaxing!
A good book – A definite must! I always make sure to bring a good book with me to read while traveling or to read by the pool while I’m sunbathing. This year I brought two books with me, Sarah A. Denzil’s “Silent Child” and Ransom Riggs “Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children”. Because I enjoy reading and I am quite a fast reader, I decided to bring two books but a lot of people enjoy to focus on just one good book for their holidays.
