10 Books that I want to read in 2018!

Hey guys! So we are into our third month of 2018 so I am a little bit behind in sharing this list with you but I wanted to make sure I chose each book carefully and that I really did want to read each of them before the year is out! so here it is, my finished list!

This one was a recommendation from my mom actually! I remember her reading this when I was about 10 years old and she always said it was the best book she’s ever read, she still stands by that to this day! It has 367 pages so it’s not an extremely long book and it has a good rating of 4.34 on Goodreads! This book is set in Afghanistan and tells the story of two women who are brought together by war, among other things, and form a bond that will alter their lives, and many other lives after them. I have already decided that this will be my next read, I’ve ordered it online and cannot wait until it arrives!

So this one interested me a lot, it is like a modern take on a classic novel, it tells a story of royalty, particularly the princess. This type of novel wouldn’t normally catch my interest but this is the first novel in a series of books (modern-day classics), the second book, “My Plain Jane”, is a modern-day version of Jane Eyre which is currently only available to pre-order. This book has 491 pages so it is lengthy enough but it was rated 4.12 on Goodreads so I ordered it and I cannot wait to give it a read!

This book sparked my interest when I heard a YouTuber talk about it (unfortunately I can’t remember this YouTubers name) and she spoke about it with such genuine passion I figured it had to be a good book! It tells the story of four friends and basically follows their life and the different roads they each lead, I hope once I finish I will also talk about it with such passion. It is a long book being 736 pages long but it has such a good rating (4.28) that I’m sure each page will be just as good as the last!

This is one of those books that is supposed to show you that there is more to life than what you already know. A “chase your dreams” sort of book. Honestly, I’m not sure if this is even the type of book I would enjoy, I’ve debated even putting it on this list but so many people swear by this book, and seeing as it is so short (182 pages) I said I would give it a read before the year is out! It follows the story of a Shepard who is trying to find his right path in life, it is a short book that was rated 3.82 on Goodreads which is not the best rating but I feel like this book isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea!

This is a book of overcoming grief and making sense of bad situations and Joan Didion has had her fair share. This book is the story of the year following the author’s husbands death. This book is about grief, love and, suffering. When I am feeling in the mood for a tear-jerker, I have a feeling this will be the one I’m going to reach for. Although it only has a rating of 3.86 on Goodreads, I have heard nothing but positive things about this book. Maybe some people just can’t handle a good tear-jerking book!

This is a historical fiction novel based during WWII. I am a sucker for a good novel based around this time (my favourite book ever being Markus Zusak’s The Book Theif”!). This book tells the story of two children who befriend each other during the war, one of them being blind, they help each other overcome their struggles and try to be good to one another despite it all. It has one of the highest Goodreads ratings amongst all of my books on this list being at 4.31 and 544 pages long I’m hoping each page will keep me turning to the next!

This New York bestseller tells the story of a young doctor whose role becomes reversed as he finds out he is sick, he is now the patient. He questions what makes life worth living when pushed towards death. This bestseller has a rating of 4.32 on Goodreads and just 256 pages this will be a relatively short read, but I have a feeling it will be a gripping one filled with many lessons and this will definitely be one I read soon!

This book is a thriller that tells the story of a journalist who goes on a cruise ship for an adventure and to write about travel. Except, one night she is awoken by screams and sees a body being thrown overboard. But the crew insist that nobody is missing from the ship. Although it is only rated 3.67 on Goodreads, it seems like the kind of book that will put me on the edge of my seat and keep me turning every page in this 352-page book, I can’t wait to get my hand on it!

This book caught my attention while I was browsing through the shelves in my local bookshop, I know you’re never supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I just found this one so striking amongst the other books. The Therapy House is a crime novel that tells the story of a retired detective until he discovers his neighbours body, brutally murdered and he wants to be the one who unravels this mystery and seek the truth behind this crime. If you have not already figured it out, I love crime novels, I feel they are one of the most interesting genres of books. This novel is only rated 3.80 on Goodreads but it is only 350 pages long so even if it is a terribly boring book it won’t take up too much time!

From what I can tell this book tells the story of two murders, not clearly linked (although I’m assuming there is a link somewhere). A black Texas Ranger knows how racist the town can be and knows what’s at stake. He is being questioned about the murders and seeks racial justice and equality. This novel supposed to open the reader’s eyes to the collision of race and justice in America not so long ago. This novel has 320 pages with a rating of 3.86, which is not the best rating but this is the kind of book I really want to make up my own mind about and I can’t wait to do just that!

I buy all of my books from The Book Depository, they have free worldwide shipping and the books are much cheaper here than in any bookshop I’ve ever been to! They also give you a free bookmark with every book you buy which I think is a nice touch!

I have created a book club on Goodreads for my followers if anyone would be interested in that it is linked here. Or if you just want to give me a follow to see what book I’m reading next! Be sure to comment if you have any other book recommendations (I would love to see what everyone is reading!), or if you have read any of these books yourself I would love to discuss!

  1. This is a really good book list! Have a tissue box ready when you’re reading, queue the tears. Also the Alchemist is MAJORR, it’s a great easy read. I need to check The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion out. it sounds really good 🙂
